The Association of Cleantech Incubators of New England (ACTION) is New England’s leading network of cleantech incubators sharing the common goals of accelerating the growth and success of early-stage companies, strengthening the regional cleantech cluster, and creating more green jobs in New England.

Cleantech Open Northeast

Cleantech Open is the oldest and largest cleantech startup accelerator program, with the mission to find, fund, and foster entrepreneurs with ideas to solve the greatest environmental and energy challenges. Through an annual business competition and accelerator program, Cleantech Open connects cleantech startups with the people and resources that will accelerate their success, and provide a national platform for public visibility.

Greentown Labs

Greentown Labs is home to >40 cleantech hardware startups in the Somerville, MA incubator. Greentown Labs provides prototyping space, shared machine shop tools, office space and an event space. Greentown leverages the facility, partners, and sponsors to provide entrepreneurs access to the equipment, services, education, and network they need to launch their companies quickly.


MassChallenge is a startup accelerator. It claims to be the world’s biggest and the first to support high-impact, early-stage entrepreneurs with no strings attached. MassChallenge helps early-stage entrepreneurs win. They connect entrepreneurs with the resources needed to launch and succeed immediately. MassChallenge primary activities include running an annual global accelerator program and startup competition, documenting and organizing key resources, and organizing training and networking events.

North Short Innoventures

North Shore InnoVentures® (NSIV) is a non-profit technology incubator helping early-stage companies increase their probability of success. Established in 2008, NSIV is a nonprofit technology business incubator committed to: 1) Accelerating the growth of innovative startups in the cleantech and biotech sectors (two of the strongest technology clusters in Massachusetts) and 2) Supporting the economic development on the North Shore by successfully launching new companies and creating high-quality, sustainable jobs. NSIV’s collaborative business model allows us to provide promising young companies office space, shared laboratories and equipment, sponsored professional services, successful entrepreneur mentors, and investor advisers. Together we help our member companies refine their business strategies, conserve capital, build strong teams, and achieve development and funding milestones.
